Divemaster Report:

Making our way there:

We had a great time on this trip as usual. We left Puntarenas Costa Rica on Saturday afternoon  to begin he crossing over to Coco Island. It was a  was a long and very calm, 36 hours boat ride to of travel to get there we were all very grateful that it was calm.

Monday:

We arrived at Coco Island at Noon, we were all ready to get wet.

Dive 1: Our check out dive in Chatham Bay on a shallow reef. Lots of eels and white tip sharks. Max depth 40' no current

Dive 2: Silverado there we encountered 3 sliver tip sharks that call this place home! So we saw a lot of them as they kept circling the pinnacle there and an eye on us, it was a nice way to start this dive adventure. Max depth 50' light current.

Dive 3: Manvelita (east side) night dive. This was a really nice relaxing dive Max depth 40' no current.

Tuesday:

Dive 1: Manvelita (west side) on this dive we saw more Marble rays that we could count, eagle rays and lots and lots of fish and lots of eels on this site. Max depth 100' moderate current.

Dive 2: Pajara was an ok dive not a lot happening fish wise max depth 80' light current.

Dive 3: Manvelita (north side) John had blown an o-ring just before we were ready to get it... good thing that happen it delayed us getting into the water. As we were jumping in some of use almost landed on a juvenile whale shark... the shark was in about 15 feet of water just cruising along... Lots of Marble and Eagle rays. Max depth 100' strong current

Dive 4: Manvelita (east side) lots of white tip sharks, rays, eels and a turtle! max depth 60' light current.

Dive 5: Manvelita (east side) night dive this was just a great and fun dive. White tips feed at night and they are attracted to our dive lights helps them see dinner..... The white tips were just all over and very active they didn't see to care that we were there since the just bumped and pushed there way passed us the who dive. max depth 50' very light current.

Wednesday:

Dive 1: Alcyone hammerhead heaven. This is the place for schooling hammerheads and that is just what we saw. It was an amazing thing to see. Marble and Eagle rays cruising by in the currents. Max depth 120' strong current.

Dive 2: Alcyone another assome dive with uncountable hammerheads and rays. Max depth 120 moderate current.

Dive 3: Mavelita (East dive) a great dive the highlight of this dive was a red lipped batfish we saw in the sand. The eel gardens were very active on this dive. Lots of rays white tip sharks eels, and turtles.... Max depth 45' no current.

Dive 4: Mavelita (East dive) night dive another fantastic night with the feeding white tip sharks. Max depth 40' light current.

Thursday:

Dive 1: Punta Maria another great dive in paradise... Max depth 120' strong current

Dive 2: Dos Amigos Pequena This another one of the premier must do dive sights it was great all the usual rays sharks.... Max depth 100' moderate current

Dive 3: Viking Rock another great place to see hammerheads we saw a few but they were shy today, the water was also too warm for them. Max depth 110' moderate current.

Dive 4: Dirty Rock this was a fantastic dive, started with a mobula ray right at the beginning of the dive then we saw the usual rays all over, hammerheads, and schooling jacks. Max depth 110' Strong current.

Dive 5: Mavelita (East dive) night dive we requested this site for the last night dive, they were going to take us to another site. We just couldn't get enough of the white tip sharks while feeding and going nuts over our lights.... Max depth 40' light current.

We got to go island today for a brief visit, what more can I say it was brief...

Friday:

Dive 1: Dirty Rock here we come! the sea life was not as active today as it was on the last dive at this site.  We saw all the usual players on this dive... Max depth 110' strong current, while on the hang we were greeted by 3 hammerheads that decided to check us out.

Dive 2: Alcyone what a way to end this trip... The water temp was much colder then the last time on this sight. Cold water means more hammerhead activity and that's just what we got. Lots of hammerheads and rays you know the marble and eagle rays that were all over the place.  Max depth 110' strong current.

Making our way back

Now it is time to go home so once again we begin the 30 plus hour boat ride back to Puntarenas Costa Rica. However the trip back wasn't as bad since we know had new fish encounters to talk about.... The highlight on Saturday was a quick dip in the Pacific in the middle of no ware, yes several of us jumped off the boat. The return crossing brought more of the same calm seas we had on the on the way to Coco Island.

So the big question is will we go back absolutely we had a fantastic time! The boat was super, the crew was very accommodating, the divemasters were outstanding and new the dive sites inside and out and the food was great. So yes we will return to the Coco Island on the Okeanos Aggressor.
