Report
Saturday:
We arrived in San Jose midday and
picked up the rental car, then it was off the hotel to check in. Then
off the Cabo San Lucas to Dos Amigos to check in with the dive operator.
Well on the way to the dive operator I hit s speed bump a little to fast.... and
killed the transmission in the rental. So with the car replaced we
continued to the Dos Amigos. Checked in and returned to the hotel.
Sunday:
We did to dives today the first
was our check out dive nice and mellow. The second was very good lots of
eels, and fish. Jackie, Brooke, Gillian, and Bob arrived today.
Monday:
We did two dives by the sea lion
rookery hoping that they were in the water and wonted to play.. Not
today they were there they were just staying topside. this was a nice
dive the dive took us from the sea of Cortez into the Pacific The
highlights of this dive were a huge bait ball and the this tiny channel
between the sea lions island and this pinnacle 10-15 wide 50 feet long,
the surge here was moving us 20 plus feet in each direction...
Tuesday:
We dove across the bay for two
dives. The highlight on these dives was a sleeping turtle and octopus
and the swim through. Then to pool volleyball.
Wednesday:
Today we day tripped to Cabo Pulmo
for 2 dives on the only living reef in western North America. This was
well worth the cost and the long van ride. The dive was at El Bajo reef
it was spectacular tons of reef fish, eels and lobsters. The second dive
at El Cantil was good but not a nice as the first. I would do 2 dives at
El Bajo next time.
Thursday:
We did two more dives around the
sea lion rookery hoping that they today they would be in the water. They
were a little more active today, we did see them as they shot by.
The bait ball was still there since the currents hadn't let up, we did
see sea lions shooting through the ball feeding they just didn't wont to
hang around. However Alison and Eugene had a close encounter with sea
lion pup and it mom in the famed channel the surge was much lighter
today. Then to pool volleyball, and we watch as baby turtle were
released on the beach. Then to dinner at the hangman.
Friday:
We would give up on seeing the sea
lion up close and in action so it was back to the sea lion rookery for
us and today they were very active... At the famed channel (very light
surge today) we spent 20 minutes get hanging there while they played and
checked us out very cool... Then it was off to ride the quads for the
afternoon. and ride we did. Although Bill and I held up the whole crew
for a while we were harassed for speeding and severing. Bill swears it
was all me fault. Once back on the road and trail we had a blast.
Saturday:
Time to come home....
The gang:
Jackie Atkins, Eugene Boetius, Ken
Hoffman, Allison Hoffman, Jackie Foley, Brooke Foley, Gillian Foley,
John Galvin, Bob Donnelly, Bill Witherup, and Dave Hussey.
